Shipping methods help you control how incoming shipping codes are assigned to the right shipping policies. When an order is imported, the system checks its shipping code and applies the corresponding shipping policy. If no matching method exists, you may need to create one to ensure orders are routed correctly.
Creating a Shipping Method
To set up a new shipping method, start by navigating to Connections → Fulfillment Sources, then select the fulfillment source you want to configure. Inside the Shipping Methods section, click Add Method to open the setup window.
Here’s what you need to enter:
- Name – A clear, descriptive name like “Free Ground Shipping” or “2-Day Express.”
-
Default Method Code – The exact code your store or marketplace sends with orders (e.g.,
FREE_GROUND
orEXPEDITED_2DAY
). This ensures proper matching. - Assigned Shipping Policy – Choose an existing policy (e.g., “Standard Shipping” or “Express Delivery”), or create a new one if needed.
Once everything is set, click Save Changes to activate the shipping method.
Editing and Deleting Shipping Methods
Shipping methods can be modified or removed when necessary.
To edit an existing method:
- Open the Shipping Methods list for the fulfillment source.
- Click on the method you want to update.
- Adjust the name, default method code, or assigned policy as needed.
- Save your changes.
To delete a shipping method:
- Select the method from the list, click Delete, and confirm.
- Keep in mind that orders using this method may lose their assigned shipping policy, so ensure it’s no longer needed before removing it.
How Orders Use Shipping Methods
When an order arrives, the system scans the incoming shipping code and attempts to match it with a Default Method Code from your shipping methods list. If a match is found, the assigned Shipping Policy is applied automatically.
If you see a “No Shipping Policy Found” warning in an order, it means the system couldn’t find a matching shipping method for the order’s shipping code. To resolve this:
- Double-check the incoming shipping code on the order.
- Update an existing shipping method or create a new one with the correct code.
- Reprocess the order to apply the updated shipping method.
