FFL & Firearms

In the United States, firearms are subject to strict federal regulations, requiring them to be delivered to licensed FFL (Federal Firearms License) locations rather than directly to customers. Flxpoint Standard provides tools to help you manage these regulatory requirements by separating firearm-related items in your orders and ensuring they are routed appropriately. This guide will walk you through the steps for configuring firearms in your Flxpoint Standard account.

Understanding Firearm Regulations in Flxpoint

When orders contain firearms, they must go through a special workflow. This ensures that firearms are routed to FFL holders, as required by law. The key elements of this workflow include:

  • FFL Information: Orders containing firearms must include the FFL license details of the receiving location.
  • Order Splitting: Firearms are separated from other non-firearm items and placed into a separate fulfillment request, ensuring proper processing.

Flxpoint allows you to manage these requirements manually or with semi-automated processes.

Enabling Firearm Management

The first step is to enable the correct settings to ensure your system recognizes and processes firearm-related products properly.

a. Enable the ‘Contains Firearms’ Setting

In your source settings, you need to enable the option to indicate that certain products are firearms. This helps the system recognize which items require special handling.

  1. Navigate to Connections > Fulfillment Sources.
  2. Select your relevant source.
  3. In the Settings section, enable the ‘Contains Firearms’ option.

Automatic FFL Information Validation

When enabled and FFL Information has all required fields, fulfillment request can be auto-processed without needing to be reviewed beforehand.

When disabled or if FFL Information is missing any required fields, fulfillment request will be moved to "Additional Info Required" status for your review.

Mapping Firearm Fields in the Inventory Template

To ensure Flxpoint correctly identifies firearm-related items, you must map the appropriate fields in your Get Inventory mapping template. These fields typically include product identifiers for firearms and any necessary compliance details.

Adding FFL Information for Fulfillment

Once you have mapped your firearms, the next step is to ensure that your orders contain the required FFL information for delivery.

Manual FFL Entry

In cases where automatic validation isn’t available or enabled, you will need to manually add the FFL details for each order.

  1. Navigate to Orders
  2. When processing an order containing firearms, manually input the FFL details:
    • FFL License Number
    • FFL Address
    • Receiving Party Contact Information

Automatic FFL Collection

If automatic FFL collection is enabled, Flxpoint will automatically populate the FFL details based on your mapped fields and the connected sales channel.

  • Pro Tip: Ensure your sales channel supports FFL information collection, as Flxpoint relies on the sales channel to provide valid FFL details.
